Frequent visits to Kawasaki for concerts often meant shuttling between the station and the venue. However, during my recent visit, I decided to explore the city beyond my usual route.
Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, I discovered 'Cafe IBIS', where I enjoyed delicious coffee and a unique dessert before the event.
Refresh with a Crisp Espresso Soda

Though late August brought cooler mornings and evenings, the afternoons still felt like summer. The Espresso Soda was the perfect drink to beat the lingering heat.
This refreshing beverage combined a light, aromatic bitterness of espresso with a caramel-like flavor and a hint of lemon. It’s an excellent choice for those hesitant about espresso’s traditionally strong taste. If you’re looking for a refreshing pick-me-up, this drink deserves a top spot on your list.
In addition to coffee, Cafe IBIS offers an extensive menu of teas, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages, making it a versatile stop before a concert or a day out.
Discovering the Australian Delight: Lamington

The Lamington is a traditional Australian dessert—a square of butter cake coated in chocolate sauce and sprinkled with dried coconut. Some variations use sponge cake instead.
Breaking into the cake with a fork reveals its unexpectedly soft and crumbly texture. Taking larger bites—or simply diving in directly—feels like the best approach.
The sweetness of the coconut offsets the mild bitterness of the chocolate, while the gentle sweetness of the sponge cake ties everything together. It’s a match made in heaven with coffee or a tannin-rich tea.
Warehouse-Style Space Just Minutes from Kawasaki Station

'Cafe IBIS' is about a 10-minute walk from JR Kawasaki Station or a 7-minute walk from Keikyu Hacchōnawate Station. From Kawasaki Station’s East Exit, follow Sakura-dōri Street, cross Shiden-dōri Street, and head towards the street with the Kawasaki Nisshin Building and Post Office. The café is across from the Post Office, marked with a sign for 'Cafe IBIS.'
Though the exterior looks like a typical maroon-colored building, the interior boasts a spacious, warehouse-style design with high ceilings and generous seating arrangements. Options include counter seats, tables, sofas, and even a counter-style communal table—perfect for spreading out documents or working on a laptop.
Located just a 7-minute walk from CLUB CITTA', the café offers a calm escape from the bustling Chitta Della area. Whether before a live show or on a leisurely outing, it’s a great spot for a relaxing café experience.
Enjoy a peaceful, laid-back café time at Cafe IBIS, pairing their flavorful beverages with a unique dessert like the Lamington!
