A Marathon Full of Surprises and Odd Rules

We arrived at the marathon venue set up on the beach. The lanes are clearly marked, making it easier to follow. However, running a marathon on the beach seems rather challenging.
Putting aside the details, we decided to take on the marathon.

"Avoid obstacles and run faster than anyone else."
Wait, isn't that an obstacle race, not a marathon!?
Did the concept of a marathon change without me knowing? To be sure, I googled what a marathon is.
A marathon is defined as "a long-distance running race, officially 42.195 km, usually run on roads." There was no mention of sprinting through obstacle courses.
But in the world of 'Doodle Champion Island Games,' anything goes. Shifting gears, I took on the marathon—which is really an obstacle race.

The runners dash through a twisting course set up on the beach in a side-scrolling format. On a computer, holding down the right arrow key increases the ninja cat's speed.
Hitting crabs that dart in from the sides or veering off course into the sand slows you down. Timing the arrow key presses is crucial.

Crossing the finish line in first place! It’s clear this was an obstacle race, not a marathon. Unfortunately, there's no way to file a complaint with the tournament organizers in the game.
Mediating a Quarrel: Who’s Really Stronger?

With a new scroll in hand but still feeling unsatisfied, I explored the area. Entering a tree on the right side of the marathon venue, I encountered two characters in a heated argument.

Listening in, it became clear they were both claiming victory. Seeing no resolution, I left the scene quickly.

Outside the tree, a crab who overheard the argument approached. The shouting must have been loud for the crab to hear from that distance. Hopefully, our ninja cat's ears are fine.

To mediate the quarrel, I had to fetch something from a bakery in Tanooki City, a modern city I visited in the fifth installment for a skateboarding challenge.
Exhausted from the so-called marathon, I decided to leave the errand for the next article.
