A good towel can change your life satisfaction and quality of life!
As an everyday essential—so much so that it's practically part of our daily routine—the ideal towel should be one you can use without any stress. Who wants a towel that doesn’t absorb water, takes forever to dry, or feels rough and uncomfortable?
Even though many of us feel this way, we often end up choosing towels just “for now,” settling for subpar options. But if you’re searching for a towel that can truly enhance your quality of life, then let me introduce you to the Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi, a QOL-boosting towel that gently wraps around your towel-weary heart.
This towel is sold by Fujii Co., Ltd., a long-established textile manufacturer from Nara Prefecture. In this first installment, “Specs Edition,” I’ll cover the basics of this fantastic towel.
Super Absorbent Towel “Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi”

When choosing a towel, we usually look for things like texture, absorbency, quick-drying ability, and ease of storage. But finding a towel that meets all these requirements is no easy task. Most people compromise, turning a blind eye to inconvenient aspects.
But for those who hold onto the hope of one day finding the perfect towel, the Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi is something I’d highly recommend.
Manufactured by Fujii Co., Ltd., located in Soga, Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, this company has been in the textile industry since 1921—that’s over 100 years! The name Soga might ring a bell from your history lessons, as it's the birthplace of the famous Soga Clan.
This region, known for its flourishing textile industry since ancient times, became famous for producing Yamato Cotton fabrics after cotton was introduced during the Edo period.
The Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi towel we’re featuring today is made by a company with a rich history in the ancient capital of Nara, where they have been making products from thread to finished towels for over a century.
Thin and Lightweight!

This towel comes in a 34 x 80 cm face towel size.

The thickness is quite thin, measuring around 2-3mm with a ruler. It’s so light and thin that I decided to weigh it, and it came in at just 103g!
For comparison, the regular face towels in my household weigh around 150g. Even though I’ve never thought of them as heavy, you can immediately tell how much lighter the Sora-Gokochi towel is.
Available in Four Traditional Colors

This towel comes in four colors: light purple, pink, beige, and green. Each color is named after traditional Japanese hues, reflecting the cultural essence of Nara.
Smooth Texture

The feel of this towel is not the usual fluffy softness, but more of a smooth type.
It’s somewhat similar to microfiber towels, but without the stiffness typical of microfiber. Instead, it gives the impression that each delicate fiber is soft and flexible.

The materials used are cotton, polyester, and polyurethane.
By using a fine yarn (which refers to the thickness of the fibers or threads), and twisting the cotton thread with ultra-fine polyester, the towel creates more gaps, which contributes to its absorbency.

The towel also features a piped edge with a frill-like design. This piping not only adds a cute aesthetic but turns out to be a highly functional element, as I’ll explain in more detail later.
Stay tuned for the next installment, Vol.2 – Usability Edition, where I’ll share how this super absorbent towel performs in real life!
