【Under 5,000 Yen】Lighthearted Lunch Omakase Set by a Fish-Connoisseur Chef at Sushi-dokoro Rin

I’m going to Sapporo for a concert of my favorite artist! This time, I’m determined to eat sushi! After extensive research, I landed on Sushi-dokoro Rin.

Despite being a new restaurant that opened in February 2024, the chef’s skills are truly impressive.

I had the pleasure of enjoying their "Lunch Omakase Set," meticulously curated based on the chef's deep knowledge accumulated over years of experience.

First, a toast with a highball!

I regret forgetting the exact words, but from the first piece, the sushi was delicious, and I was thrilled. I was so glad I chose this place among the many sushi restaurants in Sapporo. That feeling alone made me happy.

The tuna, freshly caught from Funka Bay, gleamed with an appetizing luster. It looked delicious, and it tasted just as good as it looked.

As someone who grew up in a landlocked prefecture, I’ve never been particularly interested in lean tuna. But this was incredibly delicious. This is what “tasty” means!

The scallops were also from Funka Bay. Thick, sweet, and perfectly balanced with the rice. If I weren’t already full, I’d want seconds. This is why Hokkaido is amazing!

A First Encounter with Ikura and Uni in a New Form

Wait, what’s this? Sudachi? On ikura? Sudachi?!

So refreshing!! A completely new experience!

The crisp seaweed, the popping texture of the ikura, the fresh scent of sudachi! The clear, rounded flavor of the red vinegar complements everything perfectly. I love it!!

The uni was served with salt. Delicious. When something tastes good with just salt, it’s a testament to the quality of the ingredients. I’m grateful...

In addition to the sushi mentioned above, I enjoyed several other pieces, finishing off with a warm bowl of miso soup—a full and satisfying meal.

Since I visited just before the end of lunch service, I practically had the counter to myself.

The chef, who joked, "It’s rare to make sushi one-on-one like this, so I’m a bit nervous," kept the conversation lively, making it a fun experience even for a solo diner.

What a great place!

Rin opened its doors in February 2024. It’s amazing how quickly it’s developed such a good atmosphere, isn’t it?

It’s about a 7-minute walk from JR Sapporo Station, in the basement of the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel. Take the escalator down, and you’ll see the restaurant’s noren on your right.

The spacious interior is styled in a modern Japanese aesthetic, and while there are private rooms for up to four people, I recommend sitting at the counter. Watching the sushi being made is always a delight.

Here’s the chef with a cute smile and a double peace sign. He’s spent his entire career working with fish, and his vast knowledge led him to transition into a sushi chef, thinking, "I thought I could let people enjoy really good fish."
