When we think of a snack that combines cheese with a fish sheet base, we all picture that iconic Japanese snack, right? It’s a classic that everyone who enjoys a drink has surely tried at least once.
At first glance, I assumed this MUJI snack would be pretty much the same, but I was wrong — they are completely different.
First off, the richness of the cheese is on another level. Made with cheddar cheese, it has a deep, matured flavor that’s creamy, rich, and full-bodied. The fact that it’s baked seems to intensify the umami, and you can also taste a hint of smokiness.
As the name suggests, the pieces are irregular in shape and size. Most are cut into long strips like the ones in the photo, but some are triangular or smaller — a nice variety.
MUJI’s other “irregular” products, like their Irregular Baumkuchen, are labeled as such because the size variation allows them to cut costs, making these treats more affordable.
