【¥1,300】 Take a Break at a Local Gem: A Cheesecake Trio Plate at 'Mukaiyama Seisakusho Café'

While planning a leisurely day of art appreciation, sampling local flavors, and savoring some drinks, I found myself in need of a cozy spot to relax and get some work done. That’s when I decided to visit Mukaiyama Seisakusho Café, a recommendation from a friend hailing from Fukushima.

This café, operated by the food division of Mukaiyama Seisakusho, which started as a machinery assembly business in Fukushima, offers a unique taste of the region. Here's how I enjoyed their offerings.

Signature Treat: Cheesecake Trio Plate

Cheesecake Trio Plate Set – ¥1,300

When you're not quite ready for a full meal but crave something more indulgent than cookies or ice cream, the Cheesecake Trio Plate is just perfect.

This set allows you to sample three popular cheesecakes from Mukaiyama Seisakusho, a delight for any cheesecake lover.

Caramel Double Fromage

This decadent treat features layers of refreshing rare cheese and rich baked cheese, with caramel sauce nestled in between. The caramel serves as the perfect mediator, harmonizing the two textures.

A great match for coffee, this cake offers a sophisticated, indulgent experience.

Caramel New York Cheesecake

With its deep cheese flavor and a touch of bittersweet caramel sauce, this cheesecake is perfect for those who prefer a more refined, less sweet treat. Pair it with coffee for a memorable café moment.

The rich cheese is sourced from Denmark, ensuring a premium taste.

Basque-Style Cheesecake

Unlike traditional Basque cheesecakes, this one is baked to a firm finish, reminiscent of a dense yet silky baked cheesecake.

Despite its richness, it boasts a light aftertaste, with a perfectly balanced cheese flavor that's not overly sweet.

Complementing Your Sweets: House Blend Coffee

When in doubt, go for the café’s signature house blend. Typically crafted to represent the café’s essence, this coffee pairs beautifully with desserts and offers a satisfying finish.

Its approachable, well-rounded taste will appeal to many, especially those familiar with Japanese coffee preferences.

Location and Ambiance

Located on the first floor of Espal Koriyama, the café is conveniently situated near Koriyama Station. Enter through the left-hand entrance of the souvenir area (Omiyage-kan), and you’ll find the café immediately to your left.

Seating options include tables and counters, with the latter equipped with power outlets—perfect for recharging your devices or catching up on work. Orders are placed at your table, allowing you to take your time with the menu.

Right next to the café is Mukaiyama Seisakusho’s takeaway section, offering a variety of sweets like fresh caramel, butter sandwiches, baked treats, and popcorn—ideal for souvenirs. You can also purchase the cheesecakes served in the café, making it a convenient one-stop shop for gifts.

Whether you're looking for a relaxing afternoon break or a thoughtful souvenir, Mukaiyama Seisakusho Café is a charming spot to visit. Next time, I might pick up some of their popcorn to bring home!
