【Under 2500 yen】Fluffy Ice That Redefines Shaved Ice! Summer-Only Shaved Ice and Petit Gateau from 'Magi Du Chocolat'

The information is current as of August 2024. For the latest updates, please check the official website.

We’re deep into the peak of summer, and that means it’s the perfect time for enjoying shaved ice! Not only specialized shaved ice shops, but also patisseries and chocolatiers are offering their own versions of this cool treat.

This time, I visited 'Magi Du Chocolat,' a chocolatier famous for their delectable chocolate sandwich “Magi de Cacao,” at their Jiyugaoka store to try their summer-exclusive shaved ice.

I was blown away by the texture, which made me rethink what shaved ice could be. Along with the shaved ice, I couldn’t resist trying one of their petit gateau, and I’m excited to share it with you.

Is this really shaved ice? This mountain of fluff is unbelievable!

Bitter Chocolate Shaved Ice - 1,740 yen (tax included)

Look at this beautiful peak! I knew it was chocolate shaved ice, but I wasn’t prepared for the fact that it’s all chocolate!

On the right side of the mountain, there’s a small cup of cacao tea cream and chocolate cream. And here’s the kicker – the cup itself is edible, made of chocolate.

The topping is finely shaved chocolate, which blends into the ice so much that you can hardly tell where one ends and the other begins.

The chocolate on the side has a moist texture and a deep, bitter flavor.

Hidden under the ice is homemade ice cream and mascarpone cream. It’s divine!

Because the chocolate ice isn’t overly sweet, when combined with the mascarpone, the flavor transforms into something reminiscent of tiramisu. Oh my, it’s so delicious.

At a glance, you might think this is a pile of finely shaved chocolate fibers rather than ice. As the title suggests, the texture is unbelievably fluffy.

It’s cold enough to remind you it’s ice, but it’s so light and airy. This is truly the best shaved ice I’ve ever had.

White Chocolate and Strawberry – A Match Made in Heaven

White Chocolate & Strawberry Shaved Ice - 1,740 yen (tax included)

My friend ordered the White Chocolate & Strawberry shaved ice. On top of the white chocolate ice is shaved strawberry, with an extra helping of white chocolate sauce on the side to add as you eat.

I had a bite, and let me tell you—it made me feel so happy to be alive this summer! If you love strawberry milk, you have to try this. It’s incredible.

Petit Gateau – Another World of Deliciousness

While ordering the shaved ice, I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful array of petit gateau in the showcase. Despite the large portion of shaved ice, I just couldn’t resist trying one… or maybe two!

Tart au Citron – A Summer Delight

Tart au Citron - 620 yen (tax included)

This seasonal Tart au Citron is a delightful combination of sweet and tangy flavors, perfect for summer. The lemon flavor is prominent but balanced with a mild sweetness, making for a refreshing treat.

The light, fluffy cream on top and the buttery tart crust, with just a hint of bitterness from the lemon peel, create a lovely harmony. It's a well-balanced and delicious dessert.

Griottine – A Chocolate Lover’s Dream

Griottine - 560 yen (tax included)

This one was chosen by my friend (because I was too indecisive), and it was a brilliant choice! The Griottine is a chocolate cake made with sour griottine cherries.

There’s a griottine cherry on top, and more hidden inside the cake. The chocolate flavor is rich and indulgent, with a smooth, lingering sweetness that leaves a clean finish. It’s like magic.

'Magi Du Chocolat' is just a 3-minute walk from Jiyugaoka Station

From Jiyugaoka Station’s south exit, take Gakuen Street through the Trainchi Jiyugaoka shopping area. You’ll spot the shop’s wooden eaves and the distinctive “M” logo on the left side of the street, so it’s hard to miss.

Although the shop is small, with just six counter seats, I visited during a weekday afternoon and was seated without any wait.

Their charming A-frame sign outside highlights their summer offerings—smoothies, shaved ice, and soft-serve ice cream. Perfect for this season!

In the sweltering heat of Japan’s summer, fruity desserts are a refreshing choice, but I highly recommend indulging in the rich, luxurious taste of chocolate shaved ice. You won’t be disappointed.
