With excellent absorbency, great texture, and superb usability, the Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi towel truly offers a perfect spec sheet.
In Vol.3 – Washing Edition, the final installment, I’ll explore how this towel performs when it comes to washing. Does a super absorbent towel also clean well? Let’s dive into its quick-drying capabilities and how it holds up after a wash.
Ease of Washing?
We’ve already confirmed the towel’s impressive absorbency, but as someone who handles household chores, I’m also curious about how easy it is to wash.
In the past, I’ve used absorbent towels that lost their form after just one wash. However, the Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi is not only highly absorbent but is also designed to dry quickly. So, I was eager to see how it would fare after washing.

After going through the wash and spin cycle, the towel came out looking great. Yes, it was wet, but it already felt like it was starting to regain its characteristic smoothness.

Touching it didn’t give that heavy, soggy feeling you often get with towels straight from the wash. Maybe it’s because the fibers are still “alive,” but the towel didn’t feel nearly as heavy as a typical soaked towel.
Quick Drying?

I hung one towel outside and one indoors to test the drying speed. This was at the end of July, on a sunny day with a decent breeze—a perfect day for laundry.

This was at the end of July, on a sunny day with a decent breeze—a perfect day for laundry.
While the conditions were ideal for drying, the speed at which the towels dried was still impressive!
The towel I hung outside was likely completely dry in under 20 minutes. I had another regular towel drying alongside it, and that one was still damp at the same point.
Even the towel hung indoors, while it didn’t dry as quickly as the outdoor one, was almost fully dry within an hour.
What was especially noticeable was the feel of both towels during drying. Even when they were slightly damp, they still felt like they could absorb water effectively, which is not something I’ve experienced with most towels. I imagine that even in a half-dry state, the towel would still absorb moisture well if used.
The Post-Dry Finish
While the Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi’s absorbency is impressive, what surprised me most was how soft it felt after drying. Whether hung outside or indoors, both towels felt fluffier than before washing!

Typically, towels become thinner and lose their fluffiness over time, but these seemed to grow even more comfortable with each wash. When I folded them, they had more bulk than they did straight out of the package.
As for the dreaded musty smell that can come from indoor drying? None! In fact, the towel dried indoors had a better scent than the one dried outside. I suspect this has to do with the high-quality fibers used, as well as the towel’s quick-drying properties.
100 Points for Drying Speed, Absorbency, Feel, and Washing!
To be honest, I used to think that the thicker the towel, the better. I was convinced that the fluffier towels would provide the best texture and comfort.
However, the Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi is thin without any fluffiness, yet its absorbency far surpasses that of fluffier towels, and its texture is top-notch.
Its thinness also makes it more space-efficient, which is a plus. Even though it’s small, its high absorbency means it’s more than sufficient for drying an adult after a bath. The towel’s stretchiness also makes it perfect for wrapping around your head.
Given how easy it is to wash and how stress-free it is to maintain, I’d say this towel scores a perfect 100 points. Actually, I’d give it a 200-point gold star!
Considering its thinness and absorbency, this towel could also be a great item to have on hand for emergencies.
Whether you’re someone who’s been struggling to find the perfect towel, have a large family with limited storage space, or work outdoors and sweat a lot, the Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi will undoubtedly improve your Quality of Towel Life!
