A good life requires a good towel! One that feels soft, absorbs well, dries quickly, and is easy to store… Introducing the Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi, a towel that can boost your quality of life.
In Vol.2 – Usability Edition, I’ll share my experience with this high-performance towel made by the long-established textile manufacturer Fujii Co., Ltd. from Nara Prefecture.
Texture
As mentioned in Vol.1 – Specs Edition, the texture is smooth rather than fluffy. Though the towel is on the thinner side, it doesn’t feel flimsy at all—in fact, it has a sense of luxury.

It makes you think, “If they made a napping blanket out of this towel, it would feel amazing!” The way it lightly wraps around your skin feels comfortable, even when dry.
More than Enough to Dry Your Whole Body with One Towel
After a bath, I tried drying my entire body with the towel, aiming to get everything done in one go. I dried my arms, legs, and body—and as I kept going, the towel wasn’t getting soaked through. With just a light swipe, most of the moisture was gone.
What’s amazing is that even if you use a damp section of the towel, it still absorbs moisture. Usually, with a normal towel, if you use a wet part to dry yourself, it feels like you’re just spreading the water around. But this towel absorbs the moisture effectively, even in the wet areas.
I usually use a smaller-sized bath towel called a “slim bath towel,” but this Sora-Gokochi dried me much faster.
As for absorbency, they measured its performance using the improved La Rose method, where a towel is considered highly absorbent if its absorption index is over 800. The Sora-Gokochi scored over 2000—a truly impressive result. For comparison, the average absorption index for Japanese towels is between 200 and 400.
To put it simply, this towel has four times the absorbency of a regular towel.
Thanks to its high absorbency, there’s no need to keep drying the same spots. A single swipe is enough to remove most of the moisture from your skin.
Ideal for Post-Face-Wash Use
The towel’s texture is so smooth that it doesn’t feel like you’re rubbing your skin at all. It feels similar to a microfiber towel, but without the abrasive effect typical of microfiber. As a result, there’s little to no friction.
Just dabbing the towel against your skin is enough to dry off, which means fewer chances of skin irritation. It’s perfect for drying your face after washing, as it’s gentle and won’t harm your skin.
This gentle touch makes it great for babies too. It would be an ideal, practical gift for newborns!
Stretchy Piping!

When you grab both ends of the towel and stretch it, you’ll notice a gentle stretchiness—not a rubbery, elastic kind of stretch, but a soft and flexible one.
After drying my body, I tried wrapping the towel around my head. Thanks to the piping finish along the edges, it wraps effortlessly! It stretches comfortably without any forceful rebound, so once the towel is wrapped around your head, there’s no feeling of tightness.
It hugs the shape of your head perfectly, so you don’t have to worry about the towel slipping off.
With perfect scores for absorbency, drying feel, and wrapping, the Yamato Cotton Sora-Gokochi truly delivers a 100-point performance.
Now, how about its quick-drying ability and ease of washing? Stay tuned for the next installment, Vol.3 – Washing Edition, where I’ll dive into those details!
